Invest in the Future
Each spring, Nicholls hosts an event that allows donors to meet with the recipients of their respective scholarships.
There are numerous naming opportunities across the entire Nicholls campus, from smaller areas such as classrooms, conference rooms and academic centers to much larger areas such as buildings and colleges. For information about such an important level of gift making, please contact Jeremy Becker at 985.448.4005 or email@example.com.
The endowed scholarships program permits Nicholls to draw students of high academic skills and personal merit. Because of scholarships established by alumni and friends of the University, many very good students are now able to attend college and graduate with undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The minimum amount for a donor to establish a named endowed scholarship is $10,000.
Contributions to establish an endowed scholarship may be spread over a period of time. Once the minimum endowment is established, only the earnings from the endowment will be used to fund the scholarship. Because the principal of the endowment will never be touched, the scholarship will exist in perpetuity.
Scholarships are administered by the Nicholls Foundation and the Office of Financial Aid.
At the present time Nicholls has over 260 scholarships available to our students!
Through the Board of Regents Support Fund, the Endowed Professorships program allows the state to match every $80,000 in private or corporate donations raised by the Nicholls Foundation with $20,000 from the support fund. Once Professorships are endowed, the earnings from the endowment are used for salary supplements, research support, and program development activities.
Why are Endowed Professorships important to Nicholls?
Endowment Professorships provide an excellent way for Nicholls to attract and retain highly qualified faculty. Faculty who are on the cutting edge of their respective disciplines help insure that students are receiving the finest instruction possible. Furthermore, in today’s time of such uncertainty with state budgets, a known source of income that is designated to our professors is vital to the success of the university.
Currently, Nicholls has 63 endowed professorships and for a full list, please click here:

Similar to the Endowed Professorship, but on a much larger scale, the Endowed Chairs for Eminent Scholars Program is a matching grants program also established by the Board of Regents Support Fund. This program pairs a 60% private-sector match with a 40% Board of Regents award to endow a Chair to be filled by a scholar of high renown and great ability. The Board of Regents endows Chairs in any discipline at two levels:
- $1 million total endowment($600,000 private investment/$400,000 BORSF)
- $2 million total endowment($1.2 million private investment/$800,000 BORSF)
Currently, Nicholls has two endowed chairs:
The Arlen B. Cenac Jr. Endowed Chair in Accounting Information Systems
The Belle L. & Leonard J. Toups Endowed Chair in English in the College of Arts & Sciences
